Hiking Trips

A perfect introduction to the wilderness for first time hikers or another exciting adventure for those with more experience. Get amongst some of New Zealand's breathtaking scenery. From the foothills of Canterbury to the jagged mountain peaks of the Southern Alps or the Kaikoura Ranges, Lanz End Tours offers a selection of hiking trips ranging from 1 to 3 days duration.

Your guide will take care of all the logistics; transport, food, equipment hire (where required), preparing for the weather. You just need to come and enjoy the experience. Your guide will also give you insight to the unique New Zealand landscape, its flora and fauna.

Group size is limited to 8 people (smaller on most trips) to ensure our disturbance of the wilderness is kept low. This also allows greater flexibility for exploration, gives you more interaction with your guide and increases the safety of the group.

What's included?

• Return transport from Christchurch.

• All food required on the trip
  (excludes breakfast on first day and dinner on last day).

• Safety equipment and first aid kit.

• Cooking equipment, plates/cutlery.

• Tents and Sleeping mats (dense foam).

• Maps.

• Department of Conservation Hut usage/camping fees.

What do you need to bring?

For Starters:

• Your spirit for adventure.

• Energy.

• Smiles.

Essentials:

• Backpack* (day pack for day trips or a 60 litre pack
  for multi day trips).

• Hiking boots* or good hiking shoes.

• Water Proof Rain jacket.*

• Warm Fleece/Woollen Jersey (Not Cotton). *

• Thermal underwear.* (Available for purchase)

• Warm Hat and Gloves.

• Comfortable, quick drying clothing for hiking
  (Jeans are not suitable).

• Thick Socks (1pair for each day, plus spare - they will get wet).

• 3 Season Sleeping Bag* (for overnight trips only).

• Spare Set of Clothes.

• Drink bottle (1-2 litre).

• Sunscreen and Insect Repellent.

• Any medications you require.

Optional Items:

• Camera.

• Swimsuit and Towel (for a swim in the river, lake, or hot pools).

• Hiking Poles.*

• Extra chocolate bars for your guide!

Items marked * can be hired if required, please advise at time of booking.

Due to the unpredictable nature of New Zealand weather, items of warm clothing must be carried at all times of year.
